As a building industry pioneer and leader, James Hardie constantly strives to offer homeowners the best quality products available. Throughout the 1990s, our siding was available primed and contractors painted it using a variety of paints and processes that resulted in inconsistent application and color consistency. We determined the best way to provide the highest-quality siding was to finish it in our own factories.
We began by evaluating all existing paint technology and manufacturing processes. Nothing met our strict quality standards.
The ColorPlus® technology finish that was ultimately developed exclusively for James Hardie represents a revolutionary breakthrough in paint and the painting process. Our proprietary manufacturing process involves applying consistent, multiple coats of paint that was developed especially for James Hardie siding after more than four years in development and over 2,000 formulas tested. The paint is then baked-on in our closely controlled factory environment.
The end result is that the durable ColorPlus technology finish lasts up to two times longer, has 30% better fade resistance and adheres up to 400% better than any other paint available.1
Our ColorPlus® color palette was created exclusively for James Hardie by color professional and PhD, Leslie Harrington, who specifically handpicked the custom colors and color combinations for each area of the country. The selections were based on regional housing styles, environmental surroundings, cultural factors and extensive research and development.
